Abstract

    There are many uncertainties and noises in engineering applications, such as random material properties, manufacturing imprecision, and stochastic operating environment. If uncertainties are not accounted for properly during the design stage, the product performance may be affected adversely, resulting in large fluctuations (variations) in the actual product performance and leading to low customer satisfaction, or even catastrophic consequences. Robust design is a major design methodology that can effectively design high robustness into a product so that the product performance will be insensitive to uncertainty and will be consistent against uncertainty. This presentation introduces basic concepts, principles, and tools of robust design, including the Taguchi quality loss function and optimization. Classical examples and applications of robust design will be discussed as well.

杜小平教授概况:

美国密苏里科技大学机械工程“杰出教授”,密苏里州长卓越教育奖获得者,美国机械工程师学会士(Fellow)。从事可靠性设计、稳健设计、概率与统计工程设计及多学科优化研究,开发的可靠性方法已得到广泛应用;主持完成美国国家科学基金7项,作为主要成员或副研参与完成其它多项国家及工业界项目;发表杂志论文100余篇;担任美国机械工程师学会《机械设计》杂志副主编,国际《结构与多学科优化》杂志编辑,工业与系统工程期刊《IISE Transactions》副主编,及其它三个杂志编委。
